Sinalunga is a perfect village for those who love the countryside. Located in the Val di Chiana Senese, the native land of Chianina meat, just 27 kilometers from Chianciano Terme, is surrounded by green vineyards and olive trees. The village has unfortunately lost most of its ancient walls while the Palazzo Pretorio, a medieval building constructed between 1337 and 1346, has remained intact. Wandering around the old part of the municipality you can admire palaces and fabulous churches full of works of art. These include Girolamo Del Pacchia’s Deposition, housed in the Collegiate Church of St. Blaise, inside which it is also possible to admire other paintings from the late 16th century. The church dates back to the 13th century, and was then later rebuilt in 1580 and renovated again between 1667 and 1669. Artworks also include Benvenuto di Giovanni’s two Madonnas in the Church of Santa Lucia and the Company of Madonna delle Nevi. Finally, we recommend a visit to the Church of Santa Croce, inside which you can admire the Marriage of the Virgin, and to the Franciscan Convent of Poggio Baldino, which preserves the image of Our Lady of Refuge. In the vicinity of Sinalunga one can also pay a visit to Rigomagno, a hamlet of the municipality, known for its Roman history, scenic location and excellent quality olive oil.

Chianina meat “Chianina” because it originated in the Valdichiana. The largest breed of calves in the world originated in this very area, and illustrations dating back to the Etruscan-Roman period testify to its presence in Valdichiana from time immemorial. This giant, docile bovine has been a valuable ally for humans because of its dual aptitude for work and meat production. The original Florentine steak comes from this magnificent animal. Historical events
Feast of the Patron Saint Martin
In the year 1950 it was customary for the boys of the village, the steep slopes and little motorization permitting, to have fun down the country's slopes with "carts" built with wooden planks and out-of-use bearings. Soon a rivalry between the old town's wards began, leading to the holding of a competition on the very occasion of the feast of the patron saint St. Martin. Since then the tradition has not been lost, and even today the month of November is eagerly awaited. Each Rione (neighborhood) has available for the race, 4 carts plus a spare one. The winning Rione is eventually awarded with cups and banner painted by a local painter.
Event that takes place in the month of September and includes, in addition to the exhibition, tasting and sampling of wines, cheeses and typical local products one of the most joyful moments of the peasant world,namely the crushing of wine. The winning Ward will be the one that can produce the greatest amount of must by stomping grapes with its feet.

Sinalunga is 27 km from Chianciano Terme and can be reached either by car or by suburban bus connections available on weekdays.
